Peshawar (PR): A coordination meeting between the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) and the Project Management Unit of the Urban Governance and Green Programme (PMU-UGPP) was held to finalize the implementation roadmap in accordance with the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The meeting primarily focused on planned plantation activities within the command areas of Micro Hydle Powers (MHPs) established by SRSP across the valleys of Chitral, Dir, and Swat. Under the agreed framework, SRSP will facilitate the free distribution of saplings, which will be planted, protected, and maintained by local MHP community organizations. This approach aims to foster community ownership and embed environmental stewardship within the socio-economic fabric of beneficiary communities. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Forest Department will provide technical guidance, including advice on appropriate plantation categories, species selection, and sustainable forestry practices suited to local ecological conditions. In parallel, SRSP will deploy a pool of experienced professionals specializing in social mobilization and institutional strengthening to support the KP Forest Department in enhancing the capacity of forest community organizations, including Village Development Committees (VDCs) and Women Organizations (WOs). This collaborative effort seeks to strengthen community governance structures and ensure the long-term sustainability of forest and plantation initiatives. During the meeting, Mr. Junaid Dayar, Project Director UGPP and BTASP, delivered a concise and insightful presentation highlighting the achievements of the KP Forest Department under the UGPP and BTASP initiatives, underscoring the progress made in promoting green governance and community-based environmental management. The SRSP delegationโcomprising Syed Aftab Hussain (Chief Operating Officer), Syed Awlad Hussain (Programme Coordinator), Nadia Shah (Programme Manager), and Kamal Jan (Senior Programme Officer, Monitoring & Evaluation)โexpressed their strong satisfaction with the quality and impact of interventions undertaken by the KP Forest Department under UGPP. The delegation commended the department for its continued technical support and reaffirmed SRSPโs commitment to sustained collaboration, particularly for the provision of saplings during the upcoming Spring Plantation Campaign 2026.
