19th Buraq Space Camp Concludes at OIC-COMSTECH, Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The 19th Buraq Space Camp concluded with a well-attended closing ceremony on Monday at the Auditorium of the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat, Islamabad. The event brought together policymakers, scientists, educators, diplomats, and young participants to celebrate youth engagement and capacity building in space science and technology.

The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by welcome remarks from Prof. Dr. Shahid Mahmud, Chairman Buraq Society and Senior Honorary Advisor, OIC-COMSTECH. He highlighted the long-standing role of the Buraq Society in nurturing young talent in space sciences and emphasized the importance of sustained mentorship and hands-on learning for youth development.

In his address, H.E. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General, OIC-COMSTECH, underscored the growing relevance of space science in modern development. He noted that space technologies play a critical role in communication, climate monitoring, disaster management, agriculture, and sustainable development, particularly for developing countries. He stressed that investing in youth through initiatives such as the Buraq Space Camp is an investment in future scientific leadership and innovation.

Brief remarks were also delivered by Ms. Haadiya Usman, Base Commander 2025, Buraq Society, who shared reflections on the camp’s activities and praised the enthusiasm and creativity of the participants. Mr. Usman Yousuf, Vice Chairman, Buraq Society, emphasized the importance of continuity, collaboration, and creating clear pathways for students to pursue careers in space science and related fields.

The Guest of Honour, H.E. Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher, Assistant Secretary General (Science & Technology), OIC General Secretariat, appreciated the efforts of OIC-COMSTECH and the Buraq Society in promoting space science education among youth and reaffirmed the OIC’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in science and technology across its member states.

The Chief Guest, H.E. Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication, highlighted the importance of COMSTECH in enhancing Pakistan’s global leadership in science, technology, and innovation. She encouraged students to pursue innovation, critical thinking, and the ethical use of technology, noting that Pakistan’s future competitiveness depends on a skilled and forward-looking youth.

The ceremony concluded with a farewell video, a vote of thanks, prize distribution, and group photographs.

The 19th Buraq Space Camp served as a significant platform for inspiring young minds, fostering collaboration, and strengthening Pakistan’s and OIC member states’ engagement in space science education and capacity building.
