ISLAMABAD: Deputy Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and former parliamentary leader Liaqat Baloch expressed condolences, grief, and sorrow over the large-scale loss of lives and injuries caused by the earthquake in Afghanistan. He extended sympathy to the affected families, the Afghan people, and the Taliban government. He stated that in this hour of grief and sorrow, the people of Pakistan stand with the Afghan people. The joys and sorrows of Pakistan and Afghanistan are shared, and the people of Pakistan are ready to serve the affected families in Afghanistan.
Liaqat Baloch led the funeral prayer of Shams Naveed Cheema, senior advocate from Sargodha, former president of the District Bar, and a well-known political figure. He also addressed a members’ convention on Walton Road, Lahore, and later spoke at a consultative meeting in Mansoora regarding the political and flood situation.
He said that the Alkhidmat Foundation, as always, will fulfill its humanitarian duty and role in helping the Afghan people.
Liaqat Baloch further said that the devastation caused by floods in Pakistan is increasing. Alongside the destruction of human lives, crops, homes, and settlements, livestock has also been severely affected. Prejudiced opinions about the construction of water reservoirs and dams are leading to further disaster. Pakistan is under the threat of climate change, and India’s water aggression and terrorism are major dangers. The rehabilitation of flood-affected families is a major challenge. Water scarcity and low water reserves are a key reason behind inter-provincial disputes over water distribution. The groundwater level is dropping to dangerous levels, and in such a scenario, the construction of new water reservoirs and dams is a national necessity.
Meeting with a delegation of religious scholars and youth groups, Liaqat Baloch said that living, aware nations, in times of trials, natural disasters, or shared human tragedies, turn to self-accountability, seeking forgiveness from Allah, correcting mistakes, and develop an environment of national spirit, unity, and mutual compassion to face crises and dangers. During the battle of truth, the entire nation stood united like a solid wall (Bunyan-ul-Marsoos).
In response to a question, Liaqat Baloch said that Defense Minister Khawaja Asif told the truth in the National Assembly. In reality, he charged the PML-N, PPP, PTI, and the powerful ruling elites for the current situation.
