PESHAWAR: On the occasion of Labor Day, May 1, Provincial Minister for Labor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Khan Tarakai, has said in his special message that Labor Day is most important day in the history of the great sacrifices, struggle and achievement of rights of the working class. This day reminds us of the eternal movement of the workers of Chicago, which laid the foundation for the protection of workers’ rights around the world.
The provincial minister said that the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is taking serious and practical steps for the welfare of the workers, protection of their rights and provision of better employment opportunities. He said that the working class is the backbone of our economy, and without them, development is not possible.
He added that the government has introduced several reforms for the workers, including increasing the minimum wage, improving social security facilities, educational scholarships through the Workers Welfare Board, housing schemes and health facilities. Special steps are being taken to provide quality education to the children of industrial workers so that they can play an active role in the development of the country in the future.
Faisal Khan Tarakai reiterated the commitment that the government will take all possible steps to protect the rights of workers and ensure effective implementation of labor laws. He said that the relevant institutions are being made more active and accountable to resolve the problems of workers.
He also appealed to the owners of industries to treat the workers fairly, provide them with a safe and healthy work environment and ensure respect for their fundamental rights.
Finally, the provincial minister said that Labor Day provides us with an opportunity to pledge to create a society where every worker gets respect, justice and equal opportunities.
