Mardan: Former Provincial Minister and Member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Zahir Shah Toru, has said that the completion of 1,000 days of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in detention marks what he called a “black chapter” in Pakistan’s political history.
In a detailed statement issued from Mardan yesterday, Toru alleged that the former prime minister is being held under “extraordinary and harsh conditions.” He claimed that basic human rights are being ignored and that access to necessary medical facilities is being denied. According to him, such treatment of the leader of the country’s largest political party raises serious questions about the state of democratic values in Pakistan.
Toru also paid tribute to PTI’s grassroots supporters, stating that thousands of party workers have faced arrests, injuries, and political victimisation during the ongoing political struggle. He further claimed that several workers have lost their lives in what he described as a movement for the release of their leader and the restoration of “true democracy.” Despite these challenges, he said, the morale of PTI workers remains high.
“This struggle is not merely for the release of an individual; it is for the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law, and respect for the public mandate,” Toru remarked. He added that the nation has historically stood against oppression and injustice, and expressed confidence that the current political movement would eventually reach its logical conclusion.
