Auxiliary Bishop of Lisbon Highlights Minority Rights, Interfaith Harmony in Meeting with Sarfraz Francis Vicky

Lisbon: Auxiliary Bishop of Lisbon Alexandre Coutinho Lopes de Brito Palma has emphasized the need to further strengthen efforts for the protection of minority rights and promotion of interfaith harmony in Pakistan, while acknowledging the country’s ongoing initiatives in this regard.

He expressed these views during a meeting with President of the Roman Catholic Christian Cooperative Housing Society and Chairman PML-N Portugal Sarfraz Francis Vicky.

Speaking on the occasion, Bishop Palma noted that Pakistan is a diverse society where people of different faiths coexist. He said that although challenges remain, both the government and civil society are taking steps to safeguard the rights of minorities, which should be further reinforced to ensure equality and security for all citizens.

Highlighting the importance of dialogue, he stressed that interfaith engagement is key to reducing misunderstandings and building mutual respect among communities. He called for greater collaboration between religious leaders, educational institutions, and policymakers to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

The Auxiliary Bishop also appreciated Pakistan’s role in advocating peace at the global level, particularly its emphasis on de-escalation and dialogue to ease tensions between the United States and Iran.

He expressed hope that such engagements would lead to stronger cooperation in advancing minority rights and fostering a culture of peace and harmony worldwide.
