MARDAN: Commissioner Mardan Division Nisar Ahmad has directed the administrations of Mardan and Swabi districts, along with officials from the Health, Local Government and Education departments to ensure immediate and effective implementation of the Dengue Action Plan to prevent the spread of the disease.
Chairing a high-level divisional meeting at his office regarding the implementation of directives issued by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Commissioner emphasized that stagnant water must be eliminated from all areas to prevent the breeding of dengue mosquitoes and to avoid the disease turning into an epidemic.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners of Mardan and Swabi, District Health Officers and representatives from the Education and Local Government departments among others.
During the briefing, it was revealed that 31 dengue cases have been reported so far in Mardan, while 49 positive cases have emerged in Swabi. Dedicated dengue isolation wards have been established in various hospitals across both districts, and extensive house-to-house surveys, drainage of stagnant water, and mosquito-killing spray campaigns are underway.
Commissioner Nisar Ahmad also expressed concern over difficulties faced in rural areas due to locked and vacant houses, which hinder the elimination of stagnant water and are ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes. He instructed the district administrations to access such houses in the presence of local community leaders and carry out necessary fumigation and cleaning to prevent the spread of the virus to nearby populations.
He further directed to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and submit weekly progress reports on the Dengue Action Plan to the Chief Minister’s Office.
The Commissioner also urged authorities to intensify public awareness campaigns, encouraging citizens to adopt preventive measures and play their part in controlling the spread of dengue.
