PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan has said that Provincial Government is taking practical steps to ensure welfare, protection,and provision of a conducive working environment for journalists. He said Government is fully aware of issues and challenges faced by journalist community and is taking priority measures to address them.
He expressed these views while administering oath to newly elected cabinet of Lower Mohmand Press Club at his office in Civil Secretariat Peshawar. Member of Provincial Assembly from Mohmand district Mehboob Sher was also present on occasion.
Provincial minister Shafi Jan administered oath to newly elected President Gul Hussain Mohmand, Senior Vice President Shams Mohmand and other cabinet members. Congratulating them, he conveyed his best wishes for their success.
Addressing the oath-taking ceremony, Shafi Jan said that Provincial Government is well aware of problems faced by press clubs and journalists. In this regard, representative delegations of press clubs are being regularly consulted to ensure timely resolution of issues confronting media community. He said government is actively working for the welfare of journalists and will soon introduce an interest-free loan scheme for media professionals. He added that grants for press clubs will also be released soon, enabling them to meet their operational and developmental needs.
Provincial minister for information expressed hope that newly elected cabinet would play an effective role in promoting journalistic values, highlighting public issues, and projecting positive image of region.
He further stated that journalists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly those serving in tribal districts, continue to perform their professional duties with dedication despite limited resources and numerous challenges, which is highly commendable.
Later, President Lower Mohmand Press Club presented a request to Provincial minister regarding construction of press club building and installation of a solar power system. Shafi Jan assured full cooperation and reiterated government commitment to resolving the legitimate concerns of journalist community through all possible measures.
