Maintaining Peace During Muharram Government’s Top Priority: Shafi Jan

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan, has said that maintaining peace and religious harmony during Muharram-ul-Haram remains the provincial government’s foremost priority. He stated that a comprehensive and foolproof security plan has been put in place to ensure the peaceful conduct of all processions particularly on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

The Information Minister said that the security situation across the province is being monitored round the clock through an integrated mechanism, and the government is fully committed to ensuring the peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram with the active cooperation of the public.

Shafi Jan appealed to religious scholars from all schools of thought to continue their longstanding traditions of promoting inter-sect harmony, brotherhood, tolerance, and mutual respect. He emphasized that collective efforts are essential for preserving peace and fostering unity.

Highlighting the government’s security measures, the Minister informed that 43,317 police personnel have been deployed across the province to perform security duties during Muharram-ul-Haram. He further stated that the Central Control Room established in the Home Department is functioning 24 hours a day and is directly linked with Command and Control Centers in all districts. In addition, district-level control rooms have also been activated to ensure effective coordination, timely response, and continuous monitoring of the overall security situation.

He added that modern technology and advanced surveillance systems are being utilized to further strengthen and streamline security arrangements, enabling police dept and other relevant departments to respond swiftly and effectively to any situation.

Shafi Jan reiterated the provincial government’s resolve to provide a peaceful and secure environment for all citizens during Muharram-ul-Haram and urged the public to cooperate with the administration in maintaining law and order.
