No Safe Haven for Terrorists in Lakki Marwat, Warns DPO Nazir Khan

LAKKI MARWAT: District Police Officer (DPO) Lakki Marwat, Nazir Khan, has said the security situation in the terrorism-affected district is steadily improving as police have adopted a proactive and intelligence-led strategy to counter terrorist threats.
In an exclusive interview, the DPO said the police have moved away from merely responding to attacks and are now conducting aggressive, pre-emptive operations to prevent terrorists from carrying out their plans. He stressed that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the force’s top priority.
Nazir Khan said Lakki Marwat, once plagued by frequent terrorist incidents, has witnessed a marked improvement due to professional policing, modern technology and strong public support. He noted that the operational space for terrorist groups has been significantly reduced through coordinated action by law enforcement agencies.
The DPO said police have intensified intelligence-based operations, search-and-strike missions and security checkpoints across the district, while maintaining close surveillance of sensitive areas. He added that any suspicious activity is dealt with immediately to ensure public safety.
He credited the support of Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for equipping the district police with modern weapons, drones, thermal imaging equipment and night-vision devices, which have greatly enhanced operational capabilities, particularly during night-time operations.
Nazir Khan said the use of advanced technology has enabled police to monitor terrorist movements more effectively, contributing to a significant decline in terrorist attacks. While acknowledging that security threats still exist, he said the police are fully prepared to respond to every challenge.
Highlighting the importance of community policing, the DPO praised the cooperation of tribal elders, youth and local residents, saying timely information provided by the public had helped foil several terrorist plots. He assured citizens that all information received is treated with complete confidentiality and that the safety of informants remains the police’s responsibility.
He urged the public to continue reporting suspicious persons and activities, emphasizing that strong coordination between the police and the community is essential for lasting peace.

Reaffirming the district police’s commitment, Nazir Khan said operations against terrorist elements would continue until peace is fully restored, adding that no anti-state or criminal element would be allowed to disrupt law and order in Lakki Marwat.
