TIMES REPORT

MARDAN: Lawyers in Mardan on Monday observed a boycott of court proceedings and held a protest meeting against the alleged assault on a woman lawyer at the Peshawar district courts.
The protest gathering was organised by the District Bar Association at the district bar room and was attended by a large number of senior lawyers as well as male and female members of the legal fraternity.
Addressing the meeting, District Bar Association President Asif Iqbal Advocate, General Secretary Zulfiqar Ali Attorney, Farzana Javed Advocate, S.M. Ilyas Advocate, Noor Badsha Advocate and Ms. Sajda Advocate strongly condemned the incident in which a woman lawyer was allegedly assaulted in the Peshawar courts. They demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in the attack.

The speakers expressed concern that the suspect managed to flee from the scene despite the presence of police personnel and lawyers and later succeeded in obtaining pre-arrest bail from a court.
They stressed that ensuring the safety and security of lawyers, particularly women lawyers, was the need of the hour and called for effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

A resolution adopted at the meeting strongly condemned the assault and demanded strict legal action against the accused.
Meanwhile, on the appeal of the provincial bar council, lawyers in Mardan boycotted court proceedings in protest against the incident.
