Tribal Leaders Reject New Operation in Tirah, Threaten Protest at Corps Commander House

IMRAN AFRIDI

JAMRUD Leaders of Zwan Koki Khel Ittehad have rejected the government’s reported plan to evacuate residents of Tirah once again, warning that any further displacement will not be accepted.

Addressing a press conference at Jamrud Press Club, President Sanaullah along with Siddique, Ishfaq, Ibrar and other tribal elders said the people of Tirah Koki Khel had already left their homes in the past due to militancy. Thousands of families returned after great hardship when the situation improved, but now they are being forced to migrate again.

They questioned the effectiveness of repeated operations, including “Darghalam Bia Darghalam,” saying terrorism has not ended and peace has still not been restored. “No-go areas” still exist in the region despite heavy military presence and hundreds of check posts from Jamrud to Tirah, they added.

The leaders appealed to state institutions and the provincial government not to humiliate peaceful citizens further.
