Stakeholders Discuss Youth Leadership, Digital Rights at Civic Engagement Meeting

ISLAMABAD: SheSpeaks Civic Initiative (SSCI), in collaboration with Hamdard University Islamabad, organized a stakeholders’ meeting on digital civic engagement under its “Digital Voices: Youth-Led Civic Engagement and Transparency” project.

The event brought together representatives from academia, government, civil society, media and the technology sector to discuss youth participation in digital spaces, digital rights, cybersecurity, media literacy, ethical artificial intelligence and public accountability.

Dr. Ansar Abbas welcomed participants and stressed the importance of equipping young people with the skills needed for responsible participation in democratic and digital processes.

Speakers included Dr. Sarbuland Khan Durrani, who highlighted youth civic engagement and digital leadership, Dr. Jawad Hassan Nisar, who emphasized digital rights, cybersecurity and responsible AI, and journalist Ali Furqan, who spoke on misinformation, disinformation and the importance of media literacy.

Ms. Maham Fatima Nizam discussed digital inclusion and women’s online safety, while Dr. Omar Sagheer of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) highlighted the role of technology and Right to Information (RTI) in promoting transparency and accountability.

Certificates were awarded to participants of the Digital Voices Initiative, while appreciation certificates recognized outstanding contributions. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Hassan Raza, followed by a group photograph and networking session.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration among universities, government institutions, media, technology experts and civil society to promote digital citizenship, media literacy, responsible AI and greater youth participation in public decision-making.
