BEIJING: China has pledged to work with the founding members of the newly established World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization to ensure the body becomes operational as soon as possible.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said the agreement establishing the organization was signed in Shanghai, with 29 countries joining as founding members. He described the initiative as a significant step toward advancing global cooperation on artificial intelligence, particularly in response to the aspirations of developing countries.
Lin said the organization would mark an important milestone in the history of AI development and governance. He added that the initiative reflects China’s commitment to promoting a shared future for humanity and strengthening global governance.
According to Lin, China will work with member states in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter, promoting extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits while maintaining a people-centered approach.
The organization will focus on coordinating AI development strategies, governance frameworks and technical standards, while encouraging international cooperation to ensure artificial intelligence develops in a safe, equitable and beneficial manner for all.
