BEIJING: Community-based elderly care is expanding in the Xizang autonomous region, with the local government establishing dozens of day-care centers and rural care homes to help senior citizens receive daily support while continuing to live in their own communities.
The Chengguan District Day-Care Center in Lhasa, opened in September 2023, serves elderly residents from 19 nearby communities by providing meals, nursing care, and recreational activities. The government-funded facility, operated by a private company, welcomes around 100 seniors each day.
By the end of 2025, Xizang had established 65 day-care centers and 195 rural happiness homes, reflecting its continued efforts to improve the well-being and quality of life of older citizens.
