BERLIN: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany, Saqlain Syedah, announced that the restoration of the Allama Iqbal Chair at Heidelberg University has entered its final stage, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening academic and cultural ties between Pakistan and Germany.
The ambassador made the announcement while addressing a literary gathering and Mushaira held at Iqbal-Ufer on the banks of the River Neckar in Heidelberg, where he attended as the chief guest.
The event was chaired by renowned poet and community leader Syed Iqbal Haider and attended by writers, literature enthusiasts, representatives of local organizations, Heidelberg City Council member Waseem Butt, and German scholar Prof. Hans Harder, whose speech in Urdu was warmly appreciated by the audience.
In his address, Ambassador Saqlain Syedah highlighted the importance of promoting the Urdu language and Pakistani culture abroad through literary events. He also emphasized Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s intellectual legacy and his historic connection with Heidelberg.
Iqbal Haider spoke about the enduring relationship between Allama Iqbal and Heidelberg, noting that Iqbal’s philosophy of selfhood and humanity continues to serve as a bridge between East and West.
The event concluded with a vibrant Mushaira, where poets presented their works to an appreciative audience.
