COTONOU: The Republic of Benin has reaffirmed its strong and consistent support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over all its territory, including the Sahara region.
The position was announced in a joint communiqué issued following the 7th session of the Morocco-Benin Joint Cooperation Commission in Cotonou. The meeting was co-chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Benin’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Corinne Amori Brunet.
Benin also reiterated its backing for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan, describing it as the only credible and realistic solution to the regional dispute. The Beninese foreign minister welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which supports efforts toward a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution.
Corinne Amori Brunet announced that she would soon visit the Moroccan city of Dakhla to assess its economic and social development and explore opportunities for bilateral partnerships. Both countries also agreed to hold the next session of the Joint Cooperation Commission in Dakhla, reflecting their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation.
