HARIPUR : Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Prisons, Iftikhar Ullah Jan, visited Haripur Central Jail along with Special Assistant for Tourism and Culture Malik Adil, Member of the Provincial Assembly Akbar Ayub Khan, and Inspector General of Prisons Rehan Gul Khattak. During the visit, they inspected various sections of the prison, inaugurated new facilities, and issued important directives regarding prison reforms.
At the outset of the visit, Superintendent of Haripur Central Jail Najam Abbasi briefed the delegation on prison administration, security, healthcare services, digital governance, virtual courts, prison industries, and ongoing development projects. He informed the delegation that the prison currently houses approximately 1,100 inmates, while 55 percent of development projects worth Rs342 million have been completed.
Iftikhar Ullah Jan inspected the wards for women, juvenile inmates, and drug-dependent prisoners, as well as the medical unit, drug rehabilitation center, and prison industries. He directed the authorities to complete the digitization of prison records, fill the vacant dentist position without delay, expand vocational training programs, and further strengthen inmate welfare and rehabilitation initiatives.
During the visit, he also inaugurated the Shaheed Zahir Sports Arena, the Staff Officers’ Mess, and the Prison Industry Showroom.
Later, the Special Assistant visited the Prison Staff Training Academy (PASTA) in Haripur, where he said that the provincial government is taking practical steps to transform prisons from mere places of punishment into modern centers of reform, training, and rehabilitation.
At the conclusion of the visit, Iftikhar Ullah Jan distributed certificates of appreciation among prison officers and personnel in recognition of their outstanding performance.
