BRUSSELS: Russia’s Permanent Mission to the European Union has strongly criticized the EU’s adoption of its 21st sanctions package, describing the measures as ineffective and economically damaging for European countries.
In a statement issued on July 23, the mission said the lengthy negotiations over the sanctions reflected growing concerns among EU member states about their economic consequences. It argued that the sanctions have failed to weaken Russia while increasing financial and social pressures within the European Union.
The statement also criticized the EU for continuing its sanctions policy despite rising economic challenges, including energy market instability and continued spending on support for Ukraine. It claimed these factors have added to uncertainty for European economies.
Reaffirming Moscow’s position, the Russian mission said the latest sanctions would not alter Russia’s course and warned that the new measures would receive an “effective and appropriate response” from Russia.
