ISLAMABAD – Construction work on key road networks including the Chitral-Booni Road, Lowari Tunnel approach road, Chitral-Shandur Road, and Kalash Valleys Road has resumed after years of delay, bringing renewed hope for improved connectivity and economic growth in the region. According to PML-N Chitral spokesperson Niaz A. Niazi, these projects are being carried out with federal government funding under the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He stated that the projects had remained stalled for several years due to legal disputes among previous contractors and prolonged court stay orders. Following requests from the district leadership of PML-N, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assigned the responsibility of resolving administrative hurdles and overseeing the projects to the Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission, Brigadier (R) Muzaffar Ali Ranjha. As a result, work has picked up pace across multiple sections.
The Lowari Tunnel approach road, which had remained in poor condition for nearly a decade, has now been completed, while asphalt laying is actively underway on the Chitral-Booni-Shandur Road and roads leading to the Kalash Valleys. Niaz A. Niazi rejected claims attributing the credit of these developments to PTI or any other individual, calling such assertions misleading. Officials and local sources believe that if the current pace continues, tourism in Chitral, Booni, and the Kalash Valleys is likely to witness a significant surge by next summer. Areas that remained neglected for decades are expected to transform into major tourist destinations, potentially rivaling established spots like Murree.
