SWAT: meeting was held today under the auspices of the Higher Education, Archives & Libraries Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to deliberate on the transition of selected public sector universities of the province to the Pak-Austria Fachhochschule (PAF-IAST), Haripur model of applied sciences and industry-oriented education, in pursuance of Notification No. SO(U-V)/HE/1-1/Gen. Misc/2025 dated September 4, 2025.
The session featured detailed presentations by Dr. Nasser Ali Khan, Project Director, PAF-IAST, and Dr. Mujahid, Rector, PAF-IAST, who comprehensively outlined the successful implementation of the Fachhochschule model at the Pak-Austria Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology over the past six years. They highlighted the institute’s innovative approaches, sustainable structure, and strong industry linkages, which have established it as a pioneering institution in applied sciences and dual-degree programs.
During the discussion, Prof. Dr. Gul Muhammad Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Engineering and Applied Sciences (UEAS), Swat, was appreciated for his recent initiatives at UEAS. He elaborated on his academic vision, which is closely aligned with the Fachhochschule system. Prof. Dr. Gul emphasized that UEAS Swat is uniquely positioned and considered the most ideal institution in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for transformation into the Fachhochschule model, a step that would serve the best interests of the region and contribute significantly to its socio-economic uplift.
The participants acknowledged the need for a phased roadmap, academic reforms, and sustainable industry partnerships to ensure the successful replication of the model across selected institutions of the province.
