PESHAWAR : Director General of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Tariq Ali Khan, visited the fixed air quality monitoring station installed on the rooftop of the EPA’s head office in Peshawar and reviewed the system for continuous monitoring of air pollution.
During the visit, the Director General was briefed in detail on the functioning of the monitoring station, its modern equipment, and the system used for collecting air quality data. He was informed that the station continuously monitors air pollution and provides real-time data on key pollutants, including particulate matter (PM₂.₅ and PM₁₀), sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and other relevant parameters.
The Director General said that timely and reliable air quality data was essential for effective environmental policymaking and controlling pollution. He described the monitoring station as an important step toward strengthening the scientific monitoring of air quality across the province.
Tariq Ali Khan stressed the need for effective use of modern monitoring technologies, further strengthening the environmental data management system, and ensuring timely and effective measures based on available data. He also emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about air pollution and its impacts on human health and the environment.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Director General directed the concerned officials to further improve the air quality monitoring system, make effective use of the data collected, and utilize the information for enhancing public awareness about air quality and environmental protection.
