SANAA: The Yemeni government has stressed that the situation in Yemen is no longer merely an internal issue, saying it has become a matter of international law, state sovereignty, implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and the protection of international maritime routes.
The government said continued support for Houthi militias was prolonging the conflict, undermining peace efforts and worsening the humanitarian crisis. It called for an end to political, financial, military and logistical support to the militias.
The Yemeni government reaffirmed its commitment to a political solution and said it had cooperated with United Nations initiatives and efforts by regional and international partners. It maintained that lasting peace required an end to the coup, restoration of state institutions and respect for national, regional and international frameworks.
The government also emphasized that Yemen’s stability was essential to regional and international security, particularly the safety of international trade, energy supplies and maritime routes through the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Referring to recent Houthi attacks on vessels, including the attack on the vessel Tahama in Bab al-Mandab that resulted in the deaths of sailors from Pakistan and Indonesia, the government said such incidents demonstrated that the consequences of the conflict extend beyond Yemen.
It called on the international community to focus on implementing existing UN Security Council resolutions rather than merely issuing them. The government urged strict enforcement of sanctions and measures to prevent military, financial and logistical support reaching the militias.
The Yemeni government further warned that tolerance of violations or responses disproportionate to the scale of attacks could encourage further escalation, prolong the conflict and increase civilian suffering.
