PESHAWAR: Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ashfaq Khan has said that providing modern and quality facilities to athletes and members at Hayatabad Sports Complex is among the top priorities of the Sports Department.
He expressed these views during his visit to Hayatabad Sports Complex on Friday, where he reviewed sporting activities, training programmes and facilities available to athletes. Administrator Abid Afridi, Caretaker Haroon Khan, Gymnastics Coach Muhammad Gul, Table Tennis Coach Ibrahim Khan and other officials and coaches were present.
During the visit, the DG Sports was briefed about various training programmes, coaching arrangements and administrative matters. He also reviewed the facilities being provided to athletes and took information about the ongoing gymnastics training programme.
A wide range of sports, including swimming, squash, football, athletics, badminton, table tennis, martial arts and gymnastics, are being offered at the complex. Athletes regularly participate in training sessions aimed at improving their skills, fitness and competitive performance.
Ashfaq Khan said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was a hub of sporting talent, with its athletes having represented Pakistan with distinction at national and international levels. He said the provincial government and Sports Department were committed to providing maximum opportunities to young people and establishing appropriate platforms for identifying and developing emerging talent.
He said sports played an important role not only in maintaining physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle but also in developing discipline, tolerance, teamwork and positive thinking among young people. He stressed that sports grounds and facilities should remain active and accessible to encourage youth towards healthy and constructive activities.
The DG Sports appreciated the efforts of Administrator Abid Afridi and the coaching staff for promoting sports and supporting athletes at the complex. He expressed hope that further improvements in facilities and coaching standards at Hayatabad Sports Complex and other sports centres across the province would help produce more talented athletes capable of bringing laurels to Pakistan at national and international competitions.
