PESHAWAR: District Cricket Association (DCA) Nowshera President Mahmood Gohar has described Islamia College Peshawar as a fertile ground for sports talent, where merit, training and opportunities help young players develop their abilities and eventually make their mark at the national level.
Mahmood Gohar, accompanied by former first-class cricketer and Grade-I umpire Naveed Khan, visited Islamia College Peshawar and met Director Sports Ali Hoti. They discussed the promotion of sports, training of young talent, sports facilities and selection of players on merit.
Mahmood Gohar said Islamia College Peshawar was not only a prestigious educational institution but also a strong nursery for sporting talent. He said talented youngsters could flourish when provided with merit-based opportunities, proper training and a supportive environment.
He stressed that merit was the foundation of success in sports, adding that when talented youngsters are given opportunities based on their performance and abilities, they gain confidence and can eventually represent Pakistan at the national level.
Former first-class cricketer and Grade-I umpire Naveed Khan said he had a long-standing association with the Islamia College cricket ground, where he once played cricket himself. He said representing Islamia College had been his ambition, which could not be fulfilled, but he was pleased to see that the institution continued to produce talented players.
Naveed Khan said national-level players were not produced overnight, but were developed through proper training, merit and opportunities. He expressed hope that talented youngsters from Islamia College would go on to bring recognition to Pakistan.
Mahmood Gohar expressed his best wishes for Islamia College Peshawar and said the DCA Nowshera would extend all possible cooperation for the development of young cricketers and promotion of the sport.
The visit reaffirmed the importance of merit-based selection, quality training and equal opportunities in developing the next generation of athletes and cricketers.
