Dr. Tufail Held for Drawing Salaries from Two Posts

Staff Report

Peshawar: The Anti-Corruption Department has arrested Dr. Tufail, a senior officer associated with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Polio Program, on charges of holding two jobs simultaneously.

According to details, Anti-Corruption officials received reports that Dr. Tufail, serving as a Health Specialist in UNICEF’s Polio Eradication Program, was also unlawfully working as a Trainee Medical Officer (TMO) in the Department of Community Medicine at Khyber Medical College, Peshawar. He was allegedly receiving financial benefits from both positions since January 2023.

After collecting evidence and verifying the information, a team led by Circle Officer Hamayun Khan from the Anti-Corruption Department conducted a raid on the Emergency Operation Centre for Polio Eradication located in the former FATA Secretariat and arrested Dr. Tufail. Following his arrest, he was taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

It has been revealed that the dual employment case against Dr. Tufail had surfaced some time ago, but due to backing from certain senior officials within the Polio Eradication Program and UNICEF, he had managed to avoid legal action. Sources further disclosed that the leniency shown by the senior officials of the Polio Program despite repeated complaints has raised serious questions about the program’s transparency. Anti-Corruption authorities are now also investigating the role of those officials who allegedly provided protection to Dr. Tufail.
