Chief Minister participates as chief guest, inaugurates the event by playing the first ball

PESHAWAR: The 9th edition of the RMI Media Cricket League began with a colorful ceremony held at the Qayyum Sports Complex, Peshawar. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi graced the event as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the tournament by playing the first ball.
The event was attended by Provincial Minister for Finance Muzzammil Aslam, Minister for Sports Taj Muhammad Tarand, Minister for Local Government Meena Khan Afridi, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information Shafi Jan, RMI Chief Executive Officer Shafiqur Rehman, Director General Sports Tashfeen Haider, President Peshawar Press Club M. Riaz, Secretary Tayyab Usman, senior journalists, and a large number of distinguished guests.
Chairman of the Sports Committee Irfan Musa Zai, while sharing details of the league, said that this year 20 teams from the Peshawar Press Club are participating in the tournament. The 20-day mega event is being termed as a historic opportunity for the journalistic community of Peshawar.
Addressing the ceremony, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi said that sports activities promote positivity, tolerance, and harmony in society. He added that the Media Cricket League serves as an excellent platform to foster unity and healthy engagement among journalists.
“Media professionals work tirelessly in the race to deliver news; such sporting activities serve as a refreshing break for them,” the Chief Minister remarked. He emphasized that sports instill patience, discipline, and teamwork, and praised the journalists for taking part in such positive initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, RMI Chief Executive Officer Shafiqur Rehman said that RMI has always played an active role in promoting health and sports and will continue to support the journalist community in the future. He also announced that RMI will soon introduce special discounted healthcare packages for journalists.
President Peshawar Press Club M. Riaz thanked the provincial government and the RMI management for their continued support, saying that the RMI Media Cricket League is a unique and historic event for journalists in Peshawar. “This league not only provides entertainment but also promotes brotherhood and positive journalism,” he added. Special arrangements have been made for all matches of the league.
