Peshawar: The First Provincial Media Fellowship on Responsible Reporting of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Child Marriages was officially launched on 1 December 2025 at the University of Peshawar. The initiative is being led by the Social Welfare, Special Education & Women Empowerment Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in collaboration with the University of Peshawar and SPO, with technical support from UNFPA Pakistan and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Pakistan.
This year-long fellowship program is designed to strengthen responsible, rights-based journalism on critical issues including GBV, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Child Marriage, and the rights of vulnerable and marginalized groups.
As part of the fellowship, a 10-day intensive capacity-building workshop is being held from 2–11 December, bringing together 40 selected media professionals from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

•Dr. Sumaira Shams (KP Commission on the Status of Women)
•Dr. Naeem Qazi (Pro Vice Chancellor, University of Peshawar)
•Mr. Umara Khan (Additional Secretary, Social Welfare Department KP)
•Dr. Gulnara Kadyrkulova (Deputy Representative, UNFPA)
Chief Guest: Bakhtiyar Muhammad Khan (Secretary Information & Public Relations)
All speakers emphasized the importance of ethical, accurate, and rights-based media reporting to help address GBV, protect vulnerable communities, and promote social justice.
