Peshawar: The Annual Sports Gala of New Islamia High School and College, Peshawar, commenced in a grand, dignified, and colorful manner at Taimas Khan Football Stadium. More than 900 male and female students are participating in the event, demonstrating their physical fitness, skills, and sportsmanship across seven different sports disciplines.
ANP leader and Mayor of Mardan, Himayatullah Mayar, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. He formally inaugurated the Sports Gala by lighting the ceremonial torch. The ceremony was attended by CEO New Islamia High School and College Iftikhar Liaqat Ali, Administrator Muhammad Amjad, Academic In-charge Waheed, faculty members, school administration, and a large number of parents.
The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem. Students presented an impressive march past, which received warm applause from the audience. Colorful cultural performances, including a Chitrali dance and an energetic Taekwondo display by students, added to the charm of the ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, Himayatullah Mayar emphasized the importance of promoting sports among children to steer them away from excessive mobile phone use and negative activities. He said sports play a vital role in physical fitness, mental development, discipline, teamwork, and leadership, and stressed the need for parents and teachers to jointly guide the younger generation toward positive pursuits. He also highlighted the importance of giving equal weight to co-curricular activities alongside academics.
Administrator Muhammad Amjad said that the Sports Gala is organized annually, with hundreds of students participating. He informed that this year over 500 students are competing in six sports among six teams—Tiger, Black Wolf, Warriors, Defenders, Markhor, and Champions.
CEO Iftikhar Liaqat Ali stated that the objective of the Sports Gala is to provide healthy recreation, promote harmony and brotherhood, and foster a positive and friendly environment. He added that sports help develop confidence, discipline, and leadership qualities in students.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, CEO Iftikhar Liaqat Ali thanked the chief guest, teachers, parents, and participants, and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting academic excellence alongside co-curricular activities.
