Peshawar:
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Pakistan has released its music playlist for 2025 focusing on hope, resilience, and endurance in the face of hardship, which includes a Pashto ghazal sung by renowned Pashto singer Gul Warain Bacha. The initiative aims to promote messages of humanity, peace, and tolerance through the universal language of music.

The Pashto ghazal featured in the UNHCR playlist is written by prominent Pashto poet Dr. Khaliq Ziad and performed by Gul Warain Bacha. The ghazal conveys powerful themes of hope, peace, and human compassion, earning its place alongside songs in various international languages.

The playlist also features popular tracks such as Coke Studio’s Abida Parveen’s “Tu Jhoom,” Noor Jehan’s timeless “Mujh Se Pehli Si Mohabbat,” British singer Michael Bublé’s “Sway,” Japanese rock band’s “Wasted Nights,” and Australian singer Sia Furler’s “Unstoppable,” among others.

Hailing from district Swabi in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and professionally a civil engineer, Gul Warain Bacha stated that the ghazal included in the playlist carries a clear message of human empathy, patience, and peace. He said that the core purpose of his music and poetry is to use art as a medium for promoting peace.

He further added that sincere efforts are always acknowledged, and he intends to continue his creative work with the same commitment in the future.

The ghazal reflects various dimensions of human life, highlighting grief, anxiety, and the strength to endure difficult times. It also emphasizes understanding the pain and worries of the beloved, thereby spreading awareness about hope and perseverance.

In the concluding couplet, the poet expresses that he has lost everything in the love and affection of the beloved, yet the love is so profound that he never even realized that anything was lost—leaving behind a strong message of sacrifice, hope, and emotional depth.
