Christmas Celebration Promotes Social Cohesion, Pluralism, and Coexistence

PESHAWAR: Blue Veins, with the support of the NCA, organized a Joint Christmas Celebration in Peshawar, bringing together people from diverse faiths to promote social cohesion, peace, diversity, and peaceful coexistence.

The interfaith gathering brought together members of Muslim, Christian, Hindu, and Sikh communities, alongside religious leaders, youth activists, civil society representatives, and media professionals. Participants collectively celebrated the spirit of Christmas while reaffirming the shared values of respect, dignity, and unity that bind Pakistan’s diverse society.

The event emphasized that pluralism and coexistence are essential pillars of a peaceful and resilient society. Speakers highlighted that embracing diversity strengthens social harmony, counters intolerance, and helps build a stronger, more inclusive Pakistan where all citizens feel respected and valued, regardless of faith or belief.

Prominent participants included former Member of Provincial Assembly Ravi Kumar and Member of the National Assembly Waqas Khokhar, who underscored the importance of interfaith engagement in fostering trust and unity among communities.

Speaking at the event, Ravi Kumar said:“Religious diversity is not a weakness but a strength. Celebrations like Christmas remind us that peace, compassion, and mutual respect are shared values across all faiths, and celebrating together strengthens social harmony.”

MNA Waqas Khokhar noted:“Social cohesion grows when communities come together with understanding and respect. Interfaith initiatives that engage youth and religious leaders play a crucial role in promoting peace and stability in our society.”

Speaking on behalf of Blue Veins, Laiba Yousafzai highlighted the broader significance of pluralism for national unity, stating:“Pluralism is the foundation of a peaceful society. When people from different faiths stand together in mutual respect, it strengthens social cohesion and reinforces the vision of a democratic, inclusive, and peaceful Pakistan. Coexistence is not just about tolerance, it is about shared responsibility for peace.”

Religious leaders and youth participants echoed messages of peace, solidarity, and coexistence, emphasizing the role of interfaith dialogue in addressing prejudice and promoting understanding. The strong participation of young people reflected growing commitment among youth to uphold diversity, challenge intolerance, and contribute positively to society.
