PPP Lawyers Forum demands appointment of Gohar Rehman Khattak as judge of the Federal Constitutional Court; calls for action against dissident party members

Peshawar: The 98th birth anniversary of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister and founding Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was celebrated yesterday at the Peshawar High Court. On this occasion, a dignified ceremony was held in the Peshawar High Court Bar Room, presided over by Provincial President of the PPP Lawyers Forum Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gohar Rehman Khattak.
During the ceremony, a unanimous resolution was passed demanding that the federal government appoint Gohar Rehman Khattak as a judge of the Federal Constitutional Court from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in recognition of his invaluable and lifelong services to the party. The resolution also called for indiscriminate action against party members who have deviated from party discipline.
The event was attended by senior member Mehm Afridi, Provincial General Secretary Lajbar Khan, along with other central and provincial leaders of the PPP Lawyers Forum.
Addressing the gathering, Advocate Gohar Rehman Khattak said that the purpose of the ceremony was to remember the democratic services and sacrifices of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who courageously stood against dictatorship and laid down his life for the survival of democracy. He said the contributions of the Bhutto family toward democracy are undeniable. He added that PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari is carrying forward this mission, while Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is representing Pakistan at national and international forums and working to improve the country’s image globally.
He said that the sacrifices of the Bhutto family were made for the country and can never be forgotten. He remarked that while some individuals fade away with time, Shaheed Bhutto continues to live in the hearts of the people even after 98 years.
Gohar Rehman Khattak also expressed gratitude to the ministers and public representatives of Sindh for hosting the PPP Lawyers Forum delegation during the anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
On the occasion, Mehm Afridi stated that everyone should learn from the sacrifices of the Bhutto family, while Provincial General Secretary Lajbar Khan said that the Pakistan Peoples Party has always stood against dictatorship in every era and has played a vital role in safeguarding democracy.
Addressing party workers, Gohar Rehman Khattak emphasized that those associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party should actively and wholeheartedly contribute to the party’s cause and must not deviate under any circumstances. He also directed that immediate action be taken against those violating party discipline.
The ceremony concluded with the cutting of a cake to mark the birth anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
