For the first time in Peshawar’s history, a special delegation comprising members of the National and Provincial Assemblies was given a detailed briefing on the law and order situation at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines. The delegation was also presented with a comprehensive performance review of Peshawar Police covering the last four months.
The delegation included MNAs Asif Khan and Arbab Sher Ali, MPAs Samiullah, Fazal Elahi and Mehmood Jan, along with Advocate Ali Zaman, Arbab Jehandad, Kamran Bangash, Hamid-ul-Haq, Irfan Saleem and Khurshid Alam.
Upon arrival at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines, the delegation was warmly received by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar, Dr. Mian Saeed Ahmed. A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a salute to the visiting members, who later laid floral wreaths at the Martyrs’ Memorial and offered prayers for the elevation of the ranks of police martyrs.
The delegation highly appreciated the effective and successful operations carried out by Capital City Police Peshawar against dangerous gangsters, land grabbers, extortionists, loan sharks, target killers and other elements challenging the writ of the state. They also lauded police actions against illegal occupation of citizens’ properties, murder and attempted murder cases, attacks on police, robberies and other heinous crimes, aimed at ensuring protection of life and property and maintaining peace in the city.
During the briefing, CCPO Dr. Mian Saeed Ahmed discussed the overall law and order situation in the provincial capital, prevailing security challenges, police reforms, counter-terrorism measures, available resources and constraints. He also took the delegation into confidence on public issues in a transparent manner.
The CCPO informed the delegation that over the past four months, under a special campaign, effective actions were taken against street crime snatchers, individuals displaying weapons on social media, TikTokers spreading obscenity, and those involved in aerial firing. He added that illegal and private jirgas were dismantled, and millions of rupees were recovered from so-called jirga operators and returned to the affected parties.
The delegation was further briefed on actions against drug dealers, illegal arms holders and other criminals, resolution of public complaints through open courts and Dispute Resolution Councils (DRCs), and the transparent process of accountability, rewards and punishments within the police department.
Expressing satisfaction over the courageous, professional and effective performance of Peshawar Police, the delegation reiterated its resolve to stand shoulder to shoulder with Capital City Police Peshawar in making the city a cradle of peace.
