Professor Sultan Ayaz Earns PhD with Research on Anxiety, Violence in Urdu Poetry

PESHAWAR: Professor Sultan Ayaz, affiliated with the Department of Urdu at Cordoba University, Dera Ismail Khan, has successfully defended his PhD thesis in Urdu literature. His research thesis, titled “Anxiety and Violence in Urdu Poetry: In the Context of Existentialism (1947 to 2000)”, received wide appreciation from academic and literary circles.

The thesis presents a comprehensive and critical analysis of intellectual anxiety, inner turmoil, socio-psychological violence, and existential concerns reflected in Urdu poetry after the independence of Pakistan. Through an in-depth study, the research examines modern Urdu poetry against the philosophical backdrop of existentialism and vividly highlights the social, political, and intellectual conditions prevailing during the period under review.

The research was completed under the supervision of Dr. Iftikhar Baig, whose academic guidance played a significant role in the successful completion of the thesis. Literary experts present at the thesis defense described the research as a valuable and meaningful addition to Urdu literary criticism and praised the scholarly efforts and analytical approach of the researcher.
