ISLAMABAD: Iranian Cultural Counsellor in Pakistan, Mr. Majid Meshki, has stated that recent developments in the Islamic Republic of Iran were the result of deliberate foreign interference aimed at undermining the country’s sovereignty and internal stability.

Providing clarification on the situation, he said that approximately two weeks ago, fluctuations in Iran’s national currency led to peaceful expressions of concern by merchants and trade unions in parts of Tehran. These lawful demonstrations were promptly addressed through dialogue by President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and the government’s economic team, resulting in mutual understandings and the restoration of normal commercial activity.

However, Mr. Meshki noted that external adversaries exploited the situation to launch a coordinated campaign against Iran. He said certain foreign states, particularly the Zionist regime and the United States, escalated pressure through threats of renewed military action, intensified sanctions, and attempts to divert peaceful protests toward violence and chaos.

According to the Cultural Counsellor, two groups were activated under this foreign agenda. One comprised misled individuals, mainly youth influenced by foreign-based media propaganda, who engaged in vandalism. The second, more dangerous group consisted of armed terrorists trained and financed by foreign intelligence agencies with the objective of destabilizing Iran’s national security.

He said the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, provided timely and decisive guidance, distinguishing between citizens’ legitimate right to peaceful protest and the criminal actions of saboteurs and terrorists. The Iranian nation, he added, responded with unity and vigilance.

Security forces acted with restraint to isolate violent elements, while law-abiding citizens distanced themselves from unrest. Public awareness campaigns further exposed the hostile intentions behind the disturbances.

As a result, calm and order have largely been restored across Iranian cities. The country is currently observing official mourning for innocent lives lost during the unrest, highlighting the tragic human cost of foreign-instigated violence.

Mr. Meshki also praised Pakistan’s principled stance, stating that the government and people of Pakistan demonstrated solidarity with Iran by rejecting terrorism and hostile media narratives. He said this brotherly support would be remembered as a significant chapter in the strengthening of Iran-Pakistan relations.
