KP Women’s Kabaddi Team Honoured in Peshawar for Bronze Medal Triumph at 35th National Games

PESHAWAR: A dignified and well-attended ceremony was held at Government City Girls Degree College, Gulbahar, to honour the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women’s Kabaddi Team for winning the bronze medal at the 35th National Games. The event aimed to recognise the outstanding achievements of the players and to promote sports culture among female students.

The ceremony was graced by Principal Professor Rabia Sikandar as the chief guest. President of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Kabaddi Association Arbab Naseer Ahmed Khan, Association Secretary Syed Sultan Bari, Secretary of the Provincial Throwball Association Arshad Hussain, Director Sports Najma Naz Qazi, along with a large number of students, were also present on the occasion.
During the ceremony, specially prepared shields and medals were awarded to the medal-winning players in recognition of their remarkable performance at the national level.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Professor Rabia Sikandar praised the KP women kabaddi players for their exceptional performance at the National Games, stating that their courage, discipline, and competitive spirit were truly commendable. She said the team proved its potential by competing bravely against strong departmental and provincial sides, including Pakistan Army and WAPDA, and successfully making its mark on the national stage.

She further emphasised that educational institutions play a vital role not only in academic development but also in the physical, mental, and moral grooming of students. “Sports instil confidence, discipline, leadership and resilience among young girls,” she said, adding that greater attention must be given to promoting sports, particularly for female students, across the province. Professor Rabia Sikandar reaffirmed her commitment to providing full support for sports activities at City Girls Degree College, Gulbahar.

Director Sports Najma Naz Qazi, in her remarks, said it was a matter of pride for the institution that KP women athletes had brought honour to the province through their hard work and dedication. She highlighted the growing interest of female students in sports and stressed the need for continued encouragement, facilities and structured opportunities to help them excel.
Speaking on the occasion, KP Kabaddi Association President Arbab Naseer Ahmed Khan stated that the bronze medal achievement was the result of years of consistent effort, sacrifice and determination by the players and coaching staff. Despite limited resources, he said, the team delivered an impressive performance at the National Games, reflecting the true sporting spirit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

KP Kabaddi Association Secretary Syed Sultan Bari noted that promoting women’s kabaddi in the province had been a challenging task, but the dedication and perseverance of the players had turned challenges into success. He informed the audience that the association plans to organise more training camps and competitions to further strengthen women’s kabaddi at the grassroots and elite levels.
Meanwhile, Provincial Throwball Association Secretary Arshad Hussain highlighted the broader importance of women’s participation in sports, stating that investing in female athletes contributes to building a healthy and progressive society. He appreciated the increasing involvement of women in kabaddi and other sports and urged all stakeholders to play their role in sustaining this positive momentum.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the chief guest and other dignitaries distributed shields and medals among the players, followed by group photographs and an expression of collective resolve to promote sports among female students across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
