PESHAWAR: A review meeting of the Elementary and Secondary Education Department under the Good Governance Roadmap was held with Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah, in the chair. Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
The meeting was briefed on progress made so far.
During the briefing, it was informed that reforms in the Elementary and Secondary Education Department are being implemented at a fast pace under the provincial government’s Governance Roadmap. A number of revolutionary measures are being taken to improve educational facilities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It was shared that the process of supplying furniture to government schools across the province is underway and will be completed by June 2026, after which all schools will be equipped with standard furniture facilities for students. The department has also finalized planning for the construction of 3,500 new classrooms to improve educational infrastructure and address classroom shortages.
Significant reforms are also being introduced to enhance transparency and quality in the examination system. In this regard, all educational boards have been directed to ensure that at least three papers in each discipline at the matriculation and intermediate levels are conducted through e-marking in the 2026 examinations.
To overcome the shortage of teachers, the recruitment process for 20,000 teachers is in progress and is expected to be completed by February 28. In addition, an effective monitoring mechanism has been enforced to ensure 90 percent teacher attendance in schools.
The meeting was also briefed on targets achieved during the year 2025. It was informed that, along with other initiatives, various sports competitions were organized during November and December 2025 to promote students’ mental and physical development and encourage healthy activities among them.
The Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah also chaired good governance roadmap review meeting of Health Department. Secretary Health, Provincial EOC Coordinator and relevant officials attended the meeting.
On this occasion it was informed that the Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care Bemonc 24/7 services have been launched in 250 PHC facilities. While biometric attendance will be introduced, ensuring staff accountability of the Health department. The KP Health Sector Policy Revision has been completed. Guidelines for MTI Medical Teaching Institutions oversight and performance accountability will be revised. Board of Governors Members’ eligibility criteria will be upgraded to ensure effective governance in MTIs hospitals.
Recently, The Health Department conducted two successful immunization campaigns, achieving 93% vaccination coverage in the special campaign in Peshawar with 81% community coverage. In the Measles-Rubella Campaign, 99% of target children were vaccinated across the province. Honoraria will be awarded to staff involved in these campaigns, recognizing their dedication and hard work.
The target of fully immunizing children through routine immunization, with a target of 90% coverage by Dec 2027, is expected to be achieved ahead of schedule, in 2026.
