Bajaur:
In district Bajaur, the district administration and police carried out a joint and effective operation to eliminate narcotics, destroying an opium crop cultivated on 10 kanals of land. The operation was conducted on the special directives of Deputy Commissioner Bajaur Shahid Ali Khan and District Police Officer Waqqas Rafiq.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Khar Dr. Sadiq Ali, led by the Tehsildar Barang, with the participation of DSPs Abdul Aziz and Hunar Khan, along with representatives from the Agriculture Department, Forest Department, Irrigation Department, TMA, Civil Defense, and the Highway Department.
Prior to the operation, a jirga was convened with local elders in the Khan Saly area of Tehsil Barang, where detailed discussions were held on the harms of opium cultivation, its legal status, and its social impacts. The administration persuaded the local elders that all opium crops present in the area must be completely destroyed in order to prevent the spread of narcotics.
Following the jirga, the opium crop cultivated on 10 kanals of land was completely destroyed by spraying poisonous chemicals. On this occasion, the administration clearly instructed all local elders and farmers that anyone found cultivating opium or any kind of narcotic crop in the future must destroy it on their own; otherwise, strict legal action will be taken against those concerned in accordance with the law.
According to the district administration, narcotics not only cause social disorder and crime but also pose a serious threat to the future of the younger generation. Therefore, operations under a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics will continue throughout the district, and all possible measures will be taken to completely eradicate this menace with public cooperation.
The administration appreciated the cooperation of local elders and expressed hope that, with public participation, the dream of a drug-free Bajaur will soon become a reality.
