PESHAWAR: Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, has stated that the provincial government is taking special measures for the construction of sports grounds across the province, particularly in the merged districts. He said that a substantial allocation has been made for this purpose under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026–27.
He emphasized that the pace of work on sports grounds at the tehsil level in the merged districts must be accelerated. He also directed that special steps be taken for the construction of a Sports Complex in Battagram district. The advisor expressed these views while presiding over a review meeting of ADP 2026–27 held on Tuesday at the office of the Sports Secretary.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Muhammad Asif, Director General Sports Tashfeen Haider, Director Youth Affairs Dr. Noman Mujahid, and officials of the Ehsaas Youth Program.
During the meeting, officials briefed the advisor on ongoing development schemes in the province and merged districts, including the Youth Empowerment Project, Jawan Markaz, Grand Peshawar Youth Complex, digitization of sports activities in merged districts, tehsil-level playgrounds, and the construction of sports complexes in Battagram, Mansehra, Upper Chitral, Lower Dir, as well as a multi-purpose indoor gymnasium in Khyber district.
Addressing the participants, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand said the provincial government is fully committed to the development of sports infrastructure and directed the Sports Department to further expedite work on playgrounds. He stressed that the construction of sports grounds at every tehsil level is mandatory and instructed officials to take immediate and effective steps in this regard.
He added that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, modern sports facilities will be developed across the province to promote healthy activities among youth and to steer them away from drugs and other social evils.
