PESHAWAR: Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tashfeen Haider, has said that the enthusiasm of cricket fans during the National T20 Cup clearly reflects the province’s passion for the game, adding that Peshawar is fully ready to host national and international cricket matches.
Talking to journalists at the media gallery of Imran Khan Cricket Stadium the other day, he said that the successful organization of the National T20 tournament in Peshawar proves the city’s capability to host major cricket events.
He said the government and relevant institutions are taking serious steps to promote cricket in the province. According to the DG Sports, Peshawar has been awarded the hosting rights for one match of Pakistan Super League Season 11, while efforts are underway to secure more matches for the city.
Tashfeen Haider added that he remains in constant contact with officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, expressing hope that Peshawar will receive additional PSL matches.
He further said that steps are being taken to resolve the issue of floodlights at Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, and the contractor has been called to complete the work at the earliest.
Responding to a question, he said that the process of upgrading Hayatabad Cricket Stadium is also underway. The floodlight project for the stadium has been included in the province’s Annual Development Programme (ADP).
Tashfeen Haider expressed hope that with improved facilities and arrangements, Peshawar will be able to host more major cricket events in the future.
