PESHAWAR: Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, visited Upper Chitral the other day and distributed cash award cheques among polo players for their outstanding performance in the Shandur Polo Tournament.
A dignified ceremony was held in this regard, attended by Secretary Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Asif, Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tashfeen Haider, and other senior officials. Upon arrival, Deputy Commissioner Upper Chitral Muhammad Imran Khan warmly received the guests, while a smartly turned-out contingent of Chitral Levies presented a guard of honour.
The ceremony took place at the lawn of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, where polo players from various Chitral teams were awarded cash cheques of Rs. 500,000 per player. The beneficiary teams included Chitral B Team, Chitral C Team, Chitral D Team, Sub-Division Mastuj Polo Team, Laspur A Team, and Laspur B Team.
On the occasion, President Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Upper Chitral Sikandar-ul-Mulk presented a detailed memorandum to the Advisor for Sports, highlighting issues related to the poor condition of polo grounds, their repair and rehabilitation, construction of a new sports complex, and the appointment of guards for the protection of polo grounds.
Advisor Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand announced the repair, renovation, and beautification of polo grounds in Upper Chitral, provision of water to the Reshun Polo Ground, and construction of new polo grounds at the tehsil level. He further announced that the Qaqlasht Festival would be formally adopted and organized under the Sports Department in the future, and assured full cooperation for the promotion of paragliding and other sports activities in the region.
Addressing the ceremony, Secretary Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Asif reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to providing full support for the promotion and development of sports across Upper Chitral.
