KP Govt Committed to Eradicating Extremism: DG KPCVE, Dr Qasim Khan

In line with the vision of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Good Governance Roadmap, a consultative media workshop was organized by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism – Higher Education Department , in collaboration with the Information and Public Relations Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to improve the proposed strategic roadmap at Serena Hotel, Peshawar.

A large number of leading bureau chiefs and prominent journalists from national and international media organizations attended the workshop. It includes amongst others Mr. Riaz, President of the Peshawar Press Club, Mr Shamim shahid, senior journalist. Mr Alamgir khan, General Secretary of the Peshawar Press Club, Mr. Arshad Aziz Malik, Resident Editor of Daily Jang, Mushtaq Yousafzai of The News; Muhammad Faheem of the Mashriq Group; BOL News Bureau Chief Zahir Shah Shirazi; Ab Tak News Bureau Chief Arif Yousafzai; Khyber News Bureau Chief Waseem Ahmed; Taimur Khan of Azad Digital; Ausaf Bureau Chief Fareedullah Khan; The Nation Bureau Chief Wajidullah; Imran Bukhari of Suno News; Dunya News Bureau Chief Abid Hamid; Neo TV Bureau Chief Lehaz Ali; senior reporter of Dawn Muhammad Ashfaq; and Muhammad Haroon of the Express Group, among others participated in the workshop.

In the first session of the workshop, Director General KPCVE, Dr. Qasim khan, stated that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is fully committed to eradicating extremism and the negative trends arising from it in the province.

On the directives of the provincial government, KPCVE has formulated a comprehensive strategic roadmap for the prevention of violent extremism after thorough consultations with experts and relevant stakeholders from various sectors.

He also apprised the participants of the key features and strategic priorities to be adopted for eliminating violent extremism and ensuring its effective prevention in the future.

The second session of the workshop comprised group discussions, during which participants carried out an in-depth review of the proposed strategic roadmap. Senior journalists presented actionable suggestions regarding the effective role of the media in eliminating violence and extremism from society, enhancing public awareness, promoting responsible reporting, and shaping a positive narrative. Each Focus Group offered practical recommendations to further improve the roadmap prepared by KPCVE.

Director General KPCVE, Dr. Qasim khan, appreciated the recommendations and suggestions of the senior journalists and assured them that these recommendations would be incorporated into the final draft of the strategic roadmap.

Mr Muhammad Imran, Director General, Information and Public Relations Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and President Peshawar Press Club, Mr. M. Riaz, also addressed the workshop. They appreciated the efforts of the Provincial Government in eliminating extremist tendencies from society and promoting tolerance and patience, and assured their full cooperation.
