Peshawar (Press Release, Dec 8, 2025): The provincial government has released Rs 197 million for 762 trainee medical officers of Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad, in compliance with a decision of the Peshawar High Court. The amount had been pending since 2021.
Ayub Teaching Hospital was granted Category B status in 2021, under which trainee doctors were entitled to enhanced salaries. The increase, however, was not implemented. The matter was taken to court by the Provincial Doctors Association (Ayub Teaching Hospital), led by Dr Mansoor Hayat Khattak.
The writ petition remained under hearing for around thirteen months. The High Court upheld the association’s position and directed the government to release the pending dues. Following the decision, the Health Department issued a formal notification for payment of the arrears.
Under the notification, a total of Rs 197 million will be disbursed among 762 trainee medical officers of Ayub Teaching Hospital. According to the association, the judgment not only compensates doctors for their financial losses but also sets a precedent for protecting the rights of doctors serving in public sector hospitals. The doctors welcomed the decision as a resolution of a longstanding issue and restoration of their due financial entitlement.
