PESHAWAR: In a significant step toward social responsibility and rehabilitation through education, CECOS University and Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) launched the Umeed Digital Lab at Central Jail Peshawar as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at empowering incarcerated individuals with digital skills and learning opportunities.
The lab was inaugurated by Mr. Aftab Alam Afridi, Minister of Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights, KP and Mr. Rehan Gul Khattak, Inspector General of Prisons, KP. The ceremony was further graced by Ms. Aisha Bano, Former Member of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with officials and staff of Central Jail Peshawar.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior representatives from the partner institutions. Mr. Shafique Ur Rehman, Chief Executive Officer, Rehman Medical Institute and from CECOS University, the attendees included Engr. Sohaib Tanveer (Vice President), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan (Vice Chancellor), Muhammad Sajid (Manager Admin), Muhammad Hamza (Coordinator to the Vice President), and Sar Zamin (Network Administrator).
Following the ceremony, the delegates also visited the Industrial Prison Peshawar to observe the vocational training and skill development activities being carried out for inmates.
The Umeed Digital Lab has been established to provide prisoners with access to modern technology and structured digital learning, enabling them to acquire practical skills that can support personal development and improve their prospects for reintegration into society after release.
Equipped with 30 computers powered by Intel Core i3 & i5 (4th Generation) processors, the lab offers a reliable and accessible environment for hands-on training and online learning. The training programs will include courses in Adobe Photoshop, MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and WordPress, focusing on digital literacy, graphic design, and web development.
The initiative reflects the shared commitment of CECOS University and Rehman Medical Institute to contribute positively to society by promoting education, rehabilitation, and capacity building within correctional facilities.
Through this CSR initiative, CECOS University and Rehman Medical Institute aim to provide incarcerated individuals with meaningful learning opportunities, equipping them with digital competencies that can help them pursue constructive pathways and contribute positively to society upon their reintegration.
