China-Aided Educational Infrastructure Brings New Hope to District Khyber

JAMRUD A major milestone has been achieved in the education sector of District Khyber, as the Communication & Works (C&W) Department, Building Division Khyber, successfully completes 50 modern school buildings under the China Assistance Program.

Executive Engineer and Project Director (PD) Engr. Maqbool Azam confirmed that the project was executed through the Economic Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of the People’s Republic of China and EAD Pakistan, in collaboration with the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The initiative aims to revive education in post-conflict areas and provide students with world-class learning facilities.

According to Engr. Azam, the completed schools include 22 for boys and 28 for girls, covering primary, middle, high, and higher secondary levels. Each school is equipped with solar power systems, clean drinking water, modern sanitation (including toilets for persons with disabilities), boundary walls, playgrounds, and green belts.
He added that M/S NESPAK Pvt. Ltd. served as the project’s consultant, ensuring strict supervision and quality assurance throughout the construction process.

Engr. Azam noted that under the directive of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the China-Aided Schools Reconstruction Project was launched to rebuild these institutions. “This project not only restores infrastructure but also restores hope,” he said, describing it as a symbol of Pak-China friendship and a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting quality education.

Out of the 50 newly constructed schools, 44 have been handed over to the Education Department and are fully operational, while the remaining six are in the process of handover.
The project was completed at a total cost of PKR 3.21 billion, with PKR 2.95 billion already utilized.

Engr. Azam emphasized that the buildings are constructed as state-of-the-art facilities with enhanced durability and modern architectural standards to ensure long-term sustainability. He expressed deep gratitude to the Chinese government for its continued support in Pakistan’s development, particularly in the education.
