KARACHI: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has successfully foiled a major terrorist plot in Karachi, seizing more than two tons of highly explosive material during a meticulously planned intelligence-based operation.

Addressing a press conference at the Central Police Office (CPO), Additional Inspector General (AIG) CTD Zulfiqar Ali Larik, accompanied by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CTD Ghulam Azfar Mahesar, said the operation was conducted following credible intelligence received from a premier agency.

Officials stated that the intelligence indicated a professionally organized plan targeting civilian areas within the city. Acting promptly, CTD teams launched a precise operation in the Rais Goth area, recovering over 2,000 kilograms of explosive material. The haul included 30 plastic drums, five metal gas cylinders, primer cord, and a vehicle used for transporting the explosives. The recovered explosives were safely transported to the Hub area, where the Bomb Disposal Squad neutralized them.

During the operation, one suspect was initially apprehended. His interrogation led to the arrest of three additional terrorists, identified as Jaleel Ahmed alias Fareed, son of Muhammad Noor; Niaz Qadir alias King, son of Qadir Bakhsh; and Hamdan alias Fareed, son of Muhammad Ali.

Investigations revealed that the explosives were transported from Afghanistan through Balochistan before being brought to Karachi. Authorities confirmed that the network had links with banned terrorist outfits, including the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and the Majeed Brigade, and that the suspects are affiliated with Fitna-ul-Hindustan. DIG Mahesar highlighted that the network appeared to be externally sponsored.
