JHIMPIR: As the new year begins with renewed hope and ambition, Her Excellency Ms. Maja Derrous Mortensen, Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, continues to spotlight Pakistan’s vast potential through meaningful, future-focused partnerships. Her recent visit to Jhimpir, Sindh—home to Pakistan’s prime wind corridor—underscored the tangible impact of Danish–Pakistani cooperation in renewable energy and community development.

During her visit to the JCM Power wind energy project, supported by Impact Fund Denmark, Ambassador Mortensen witnessed 58 wind turbines producing 100 megawatts of clean, renewable electricity. She emphasized that the project represents far more than power generation—it stands as a cornerstone of Denmark–Pakistan collaboration in addressing climate change and advancing a sustainable energy future.

Highlighting the strategic importance of wind energy, the Ambassador drew attention to the Jhimpir wind corridor’s estimated potential of 11 to 50 GW, an underutilized national asset. With Denmark’s global expertise in wind technology, this partnership is helping Pakistan convert natural wind resources into reliable, grid-connected power while significantly reducing carbon emissions.

Beyond energy production, the Danish model of investment reflects a holistic approach to development. Supported by Danish capital, JCM Power has refurbished and reopened a local primary school, now providing fully funded education to more than 40 students. The project also facilitates access to healthcare and electricity for surrounding communities, demonstrating how responsible foreign investment can deliver lasting social benefits alongside economic growth.

Ambassador Mortensen expressed particular appreciation for the enthusiasm of local students, remarking that such moments are “a powerful reminder that green energy investments can help power not only turbines, but futures.”

Her visit further highlighted her hands-on diplomatic leadership, characterized by direct engagement with communities, projects, and stakeholders across Pakistan. Her efforts have played a vital role in strengthening trust, identifying synergies, and promoting cooperation rooted in shared values and mutual benefit.

Denmark’s support for Pakistan spans renewable energy, climate resilience, water management, agriculture, and inclusive green growth. Under Ambassador Mortensen’s leadership, the Denmark–Pakistan partnership continues to stand as a model of impactful international cooperation—one that is helping build a greener, more equitable future.
