Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Ismail Khan, Syed Ashfaq Anwar, has announced that under the Safe City Project, 480 CCTV cameras will be installed at 88 locations across the city. Work on the project is already in progress.
Speaking to Media persons at his office, the RPO said that the provincial government is bringing a landmark project to improve the police force, which will leave a lasting mark on the region. He noted that reconstruction of seven police stations in Dera Ismail Khan will soon be completed and that he is personally monitoring the progress. He added that the district deserves much more, and further projects, including construction of additional police stations, are in the pipeline.
Highlighting the sacrifices of the force, he said that police in the Dera region had faced terrorism under extremely difficult circumstances, offering their lives to safeguard the country and its people. “Rule of law and welfare of the police force remain our top priorities,” he said.
The RPO explained that, under the directives of the provincial government and Inspector General of Police KP, Zulfiqar Hameed, several welfare measures have been initiated. Tenders have already been issued for various development schemes, including reconstruction of police stations in Dera Town, City, Gomal University, Yarak, Cantt-I, Shor Kot (Saddar), and Paharpur. Projects also include residential barracks for constables, boundary walls, the DPO and RPO offices, traffic headquarters, a command-and-control center, and a police facilitation center in Dera.
He further said that work on the Tank Police Lines, damaged in a terrorist attack, has been completed. To enhance security, six new police check-posts are being established on the Dera–Tank Road and four on the Darazinda Road, while repairs are being carried out on existing stations and posts.
The RPO revealed that Chief Minister KP Ali Amin Gandapur had agreed to a proposal for increasing the police strength in the district. A request has been sent to the provincial government for the induction of 600 constables in Dera and 200 in Tank, with cabinet approval expected soon. “This will directly help in controlling crime and countering terrorism,” he said.
He also noted that KP police salaries have now been brought at par with Punjab police, and the force is being equipped with modern vehicles, APCs, thermal cameras, weapons, ammunition, bulletproof jackets, and helmets. For welfare, partnerships have been signed with schools, colleges, universities, and hospitals to provide quality education and healthcare to police families. Financial assistance is also provided for the marriage of daughters of police officials.
This year, 23 assistant sub-inspectors have been promoted to sub-inspector rank and 28 head constables to assistant sub-inspector under the force’s structured promotion system. The compensation package for police martyrs has been raised from Rs10 million to Rs11 million, while the families of fallen officers were recently given cheques of Rs50,000 and gifts during Police Martyrs Day.
The RPO appealed to the public to support law enforcement by reporting crime, terrorism, and especially facilitators of terrorists. “Peace cannot be achieved without public cooperation,” he said. “Where there is peace, there will be business, prosperity, and a better life. Despite challenges, Dera police will continue to fulfill their duties and meet the expectations of the people.”
