ISLAMABAD: Lal Dino Mari Baloch, Chairman of Pakistan Front Movement (PFM) and Baloch International Congress Trust (BICT), today expressed deep concern over the deteriorating health situation in Balochistan, urging immediate government intervention to protect the lives of the province’s people.
Bsloch highlighted that despite Balochistan’s rich natural resources, basic health facilities remain grossly inadequate for the majority of the population. Currently, only a small fraction of residents have access to essential medical care, with reports showing that only about 22 % of the population can access basic health services.
Healthcare infrastructure is insufficient and unevenly distributed. Thousands of doctor positions remain vacant, including over thousands of unfilled posts, leaving district hospitals and rural clinics severely understaffed. Moreover, many health facilities exist only on paper or are non-functional, forcing patients to travel long distances for critical treatment.
Baloch also drew attention to alarming public health indicators, including the rising burden of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, with over 3,300 registered cases and hundreds of deaths in the past year as per media reports. He urged both provincial and federal governments to allocate increased resources, recruit and retain healthcare professionals, and ensure that well-equipped hospitals and clinics reach every tehsil and village in the province. “Health is a fundamental right,” he stated, “and no Balochistan citizen should be denied life-saving care due to neglect.”
