Islamabad — Dr. Mehdi Taheri, Director General of Iran’s House of Culture in Rawalpindi , has issued a strong condemnation regarding the reckless and unlawful act of aggression targeting the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He characterized the act as a blatant violation of international law and a profound insult to the conscience of free nations.
A Reckless Breach of International Norms
Dr. Taheri stated that in a flagrant disregard for established international frameworks and diplomatic conventions, elements supported by a regime with a history stained by aggression and moral bankruptcy have attempted a cowardly act against the leader of a nation renowned for its ancient civilization and sovereignty. He drew a stark contrast between the two nations involved, highlighting that Iran has no record of territorial aggression in over 200 years, while its adversary has spent a mere sixteen years of its 250-year history without engaging in war.
“The absurdity of this act is staggering,” Dr. Taheri remarked. “The claim of targeting the world’s most fortified leader within his own home, while he is engaged in the service of his homeland, is not only baseless but has backfired spectacularly. Such folly has only elevated him to the status of a hero in the eyes of the world’s awakened consciences.”
Miscalculation and Regional Instability
Dr. Taheri emphasized that the recent events have exposed the profound miscalculation by those who orchestrated them. He noted that the predictions made by figures like Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu—that targeting Iran’s leadership would quell the conflict—were born from a fundamental ignorance of the deep respect and reverence held for the Leader of the Revolution within the Islamic world and among freedom-loving people globally.
“Instead of bringing an end to conflict, we are now witnessing a global outcry. People in the farthest corners of the world are rising to condemn this aggressive act, which has transformed a political dispute into a broader regional conflict,” he added.
A Clear Violation of International Law
The Director General further elaborated on the severe legal implications of this act, framing it as a direct assault on the foundational principles of the United Nations Charter and international human rights law.
- Violation of the UN Charter: Taheri asserted that by violating the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic and assassinating its highest political and legal authority, the U.S. regime and its proxy forces have committed a grave breach of the principle of the prohibition of the use of force, as enshrined in Article 2(4) of the Charter of the United Nations.
- Assault on Religious Freedom:He condemned the targeting of a religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as a direct violation of Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) , which guarantees the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. This act, he stated, has deeply wounded the sentiments of millions of Muslims worldwide.
- Inciting Hatred and Global Discord:The assassination attempt has fueled anger and hatred, contravening Article 20 of the ICCPR, which calls for the prohibition of any advocacy of national, racial, or religious hatred.
- Breach of the Convention on Internationally Protected Persons:Finally, Dr. Taheri underscored that this action violates obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Internationally Protected Persons. This convention explicitly designates heads of state as internationally protected persons entitled to special safeguards against any attack, a principle that has been flagrantly ignored.
Dr. Mehdi Taheri concluded by reaffirming that such acts of aggression will only strengthen the resolve of the Iranian nation and its leadership, and he called upon the international community to uphold its legal and moral duties by unequivocally condemning this violation of global peace and security.
